Recently, the House has passed a bill that will allow the unconstitutional posting of the 10 commandments on government property and government funded institutions, yet, few or none have spoken up about this terrible crime against the constitution. My problem is not with the commandments themselves, it's with the fact that Religion and State are not meant to be together in any way, shape, or form. Now, granted, many may claim that the dollar bill declares this as a christian nation, but what most don't know is that our founders were deists, not christians. It has long been held dear in the hearts of the American people that even if everybody in this country follows a particular religion, the State will be impartial if yours is different, but this bill could change all of this, this is the beginning of the end of religious freedom in this great country.
In the constitution, the founders of this country stated several times that there should be a clear, and definite separation between religion and the state. If the bill passes the Senate, it will do nothing but cause more trouble in America's schools. Imagine: Your child goes to school and sees passages from another religion's holy texts and then goes around your house quoting them, or even worse, imagine that the school makes your child recite them, that's what many parents around the country are worried about right now. This bill is in obvious contradiction with the constitution and begs the question: If the government is already being partial to a particular religion, how long can it be before the government forces its people to follow a certain religion?
The American people should not stand for this kind of blatant attack on the principles that we hold so dear, It is wrong and can't be allowed. However, due to the low profile of this bill, most people won't even know about it until their children are being influenced by a piece of religious propaganda that they may or may not agree with. This is a pivotal point in the growth of this country, if we let one religion post its tenets, then we must let them all, which could turn the public school system into a place of hate and religious intolerance, instead of a place of learning.
